Did you know that there is a MSA club? If not, now you know!
The word MSA stands for “Muslim Student Association,” a safe space in the community for Muslims (as well as non-Muslims) on campus. In this club, for the past 2 years (making this year the 3rd year), Muslim students are able to come together and build a fellowship to ask or share the experience of being a Muslim on campus. In MSA, we try to figure out how we can support each other in challenges and struggles and also work to build a safer community not only within us Muslims, but as a whole campus.
So who could join this Club? Anyone can join this club. In other words, if you're interested to learn or gain knowledge about Muslims or Islam, this is the club for it. Others could come hear the experience of being a Muslim student in Cal Prep and our views towards different things. In our first MSA meeting, we had the privilege of having someone participate who isn't a Muslim. Here is what he has to say about the MSA:
"Being part of MSA is an awesome opportunity to learn more about how Muslims are and what they believe in. Also it gives me an opportunity to support my Muslim friends and learn more about them." -Damian
Anyone who would like to learn more about Muslims and the religion we follow can join MSA as a way to gain knowledge and better understand our ways. Islam is the religion Muslims follow, the rulings in Islam also have answers to common issues among people. MSA doesn’t only talk about islam, but also helps Muslims to find a solution to a problem they’re facing or getting displeased by. MSA is a safe space for us to fight off negative stereotypes and issues. It is a place where you will feel safe and won’t be discriminated against. A place where you’re always welcome and open to ask about anything.
Thanks to our Muslim Seniors and Ms. Abate, today we were able to have our first MSA club meeting! If you are interested, please come join the MSA club or talk to one of the Muslim seniors.
