My Opinion: Hello!? Can anybody hear me? Where has all the respect gone?
By Stephanie V.
Respect. Where has all the respect gone? I want to make Cal Prep students aware that disrespect by some few students at Cal Prep. shouldn’t be tolerated any longer. It’s just not cool.
I like Cal Prep because it is a positive place with friendly students, helpful teachers, and a supportive environment. Overall, the school is friendly and teachers make us students feel recognized and welcomed, ensuring our success and the overall success of the school.
A Few Students' Behavior
It has come to my attention for some time now, that there's been awful behavior and mocking going on around our school by just a few students. They should stop this foolish behavior.
We Want This To Change
Students at Cal Prep want the change. I've had countless conversations with friends about the school's policies and how, in reality, little progress has been made to make students accountable for their behavior . Some few disruptive students return to classrooms from check-ins and send-outs and continue to behave in an arrogant manner in their classrooms, inconsiderate of the majority of students who come here to Cal Prep to learn.
It's Not Cool to Disrupt Our Education
How many times do teachers have to stop their lesson because one student, or maybe their friends, decide that it’s okay for those few to cause havoc and interrupt the class? These rude students do so to seem “cool” or because they find it amusing to show off to their friends. They know they’ll be able to get away with it. There are no consequences here. Maybe students should learn to regulate the behavior of their classmates?
Privileged
We, the students at Cal Prep, are privileged because we have access to a good education, caring teachers and many resources. We even have our own laptops we can take home each night. There are millions of kids out there, teens who would do anything, who yearn to have access to an education like we have here. But some few here don't seem to appreciate how privileged and lucky they are to be here. Cal Prep enables us to have control over our future and decide what we’d like to pursue after high school. Those less fortunate, lacking options, don't have this chance to attend a school like Cal Prep as we do. We’re lucky.
Represent and Practice the Core Value of Respect Listen up! It is important that we, the students of Ccal Prep, represent and practice the core value of respect and that we are on our best behavior .
Why? because this will set us up for success, and respect is key for a positive and productive classroom environment. We all know basic manners and how to show respect. We shouldn’t have to keep being reminded.
Is it fair to rob the chance for others to learn in class?
If you see someone being disrespectful, tell them to stop. And if you’re being disrespectful, ask yourself, “is it fair to rob the chance for others to learn in class while you constantly interrupt teachers and show disrespect with your disruptive behavior? “
