It's hard to know what's true these days when reading social media or scrolling through Tik Tok posts. Who bombed that hospital in Gaza? We're reading different stories from influencers who may have different agendas.
Citizen Journalists aren’t always a reliable or accurate news source. Many people spread false stories or exaggerate the truth in order to attract attention and cause a reaction. Many people post fabrications of a story on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Maybe even you have stumbled across a false post and have believed it, but you’re not to blame.
The next time you see news posted by a Citizen Journalist, remember to ask yourself “Is this information actually true?”. Although you might be inclined to believe it, you should do some research on the topic first. Ways to confirm that the news is telling the truth is to: check if any media companies or if others are reporting the story, check the source and the history of the person reporting the story, and to carefully examine the evidence. Only then can you make the decision to believe the story.
